SIDAREC youth development project
Slums Information Development and Resource Centers (SIDAREC) began operating in April 1996 as a youth-group, which was registered under the then Kenya's Ministry of Culture and Social Services. Because of the increased scope of activities the Organization was registered in 1997 as a Non-Govermental Organization.
SIDAREC is a youth development project operating in the slums of Nairobi;the capital city of Kenya and serving an estimated population of about 500,000 people.

SIDAREC was formed after the realization that there are too many young people idling around the communities with little or nothing to do after completing or dropping out of school for various social reasons. Available statistics indicate that the youth are more vunerable to social vices if they are not positively engaged. |
