Kibera
way of the Cross - Holy Friday - The procession attracts
thousands of people and goes along the main streets
of Kibera.
|
|
Faith
formation is one of the main activities of the Slum
Ministries.
The
formation has different aspects: catechism; Faith
formation in the small christian communities (scc);
organization of the parish activities (Liturgy, readers,
procession, drama, etc). Deepening the Word of God
in the Bible is one of the main means of the faith
formation.
The
aim is to help Christians to live according to the
values of the Gospel and to work towards the coming
of the Kingdom in their context.

formation Ministry at Christ the King Parish -
Kibera
The
aim of the department is to promote the formation
of the members of the 35 small christian communities
in the parish, to give them a solid faith formation
and to help them to make the link between their
faith and their daily life.
The
department of Faith Formation has 23 catechists:
1 full-time catechihst and the 22 others work
on voluntary terms. They are in charge of the
catechism and the preparation to the sacrements.

The
Pilot project and one of the priorities of the
parish is the "Bible on the ground"
based on a reflection on the Bible and in their
life and situation, in order to live the Word
of God in daily life. All the departments and
all the small christian communities participate
in this formation.
The
department takes care of the Sunday school teachers,
of the group of adolescents and the groups of
couples from the parish.
They
also coordinate the pastoral activities and
the liturgy of the parish.

St.
John, Korogocho Faith Formation
Biblical and human formation
of the leaders, youth and children has been
a priority for the last 16 years.
There are many formative moments
through the year and a workshop of a couple
of hours on specific topics for all the community
is given every other week. Some of the workshops
given have dealt with: Aids, the sacraments,
alcohol/drugs, the Bible, visits to the sick,
counselling, etc. A specific formation is also
given to those directly involved in the performance
of each particular service (Huduma). Three times
a year Bible Weeks are organized, open to the
whole community.
|
|
|
|
|
This formation courses are often supported
by the projection of videos and documentaries that help to
absorb more deeply the message we want to convey.
